FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is the difference between a celebrant and a registrar?
Celebrants conduct weddings but we do not officiate legally binding marriges. To make a union legal, couples need to be married by a registrar.
Many of my couples choose to do the ‘paperwork bit’ at a low key ceremony at a registry office before or after their celebrant-led wedding. This can be with a small guest list or it can be just the two of you along with two witnesses.
As celebrants, we have the freedom to tailor the ceremony to the exact needs and ideas of our couple.
Celebrants take the time to understand a couple long before the celebration, meaning their special day is entirely unique to them and designed specifically to suit their own vision.
We are not tied to a formal office or restricted shortlist of venues. Think oceanside nuptials, getting married in your friend’s garden, treehouse ceremonies….this is where the creative fun comes in.
My wedding is not planned to be in Devon — do you travel?
I am based in beautiful North Devon but I am booked for ceremonies across the UK and would happily consider ceremonies abroad. I do not charge for travel within Devon.
Beyond the Devonshire border, I charge the current government standard of 45 pence per mile.
I require overnight accommodation if your venue is over 3 hours from my home in North Devon.
We can discuss these logistics and more during your discovery call.
Do we need to be legally married first?
In most instances, my couples choose to have a legal ceremony a month or so before their Big Day. Some choose to do it alone or to make it an intimate celebration with close loved ones.
In some cases, couples actually choose not to legally marry and the ceremony I deliver is purely a celebration of their love and commitment. Your wedding is your day to design your way!
Can we include religious elements in our ceremony?
Yes, absolutely. I am an independent celebrant rather than a humanist (humanists do not include any religious rituals or aspects within their ceremonies).
Okay, visuals. What will you wear?
As a former performer and dedicated creative, I love a vibrant and stylishly curated outfit befitting of a special occasion! I am very happy to adapt my clothing to suit your wedding colouring. This is something I will discuss with you as we start to build out the details of your ceremony.
Okay, let’s do this. What’s next? How does it all work?
Our first step is to meet in person (or online) to discuss your needs, ideas, guest number and other key information you would like to share with me.
I will then send you an easy to follow questionnaire to complete in writing or over Whatsapp voice notes depending on your personal preference.
From there, I will go away and produce your bespoke script for you to review well ahead of the Big Day.
I allow plenty of time for minor revisions to be made.
From there, it’s go time. Let’s get you married!
