FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the difference between a celebrant and a registrar?

Celebrants conduct weddings but do not officiate legally binding weddings. To make a marriage legal, a couple would need to be married in a registry office or approved site.

Many of my couples choose to do the ‘paperwork bit’ at a low key ceremony at a registry office before or after their celebrant-led wedding. This can be with a small guest list or it can be just the two of you.

Although celebrants only provide a non-legally binding ceremony, we have the unique freedom to tailor the ceremony to the exact needs and ideas of a couple.

Celebrants take the time to understand a couple long before the celebration, meaning their special day is entirely unique to them and designed specifically to suit their own vision.

We are not tied to a formal office or restricted shortlist of venues. Think oceanside nuptials, getting married in your friend’s garden, treehouse ceremonies….this is where the creative fun comes in.

My wedding is not planned to be in Devon — do you travel?

I am based in beautiful North Devon and travel across the county as well as Somerset and Cornwall without needing to charge for travel or accommodation. I can travel further afield including abroad. This is something we can discuss during your discovery call.

Do we need to be legally married first?

In most instances, my couples have a legal ceremony a few weeks ahead of their Big Day. Some choose to do it alone or to make it an intimate celebration with close loved ones. In some cases, couples choose not to legally marry at all and the ceremony I deliver is purely a celebration of their love and commitment without any legal element. Your wedding is your day to design your way, with my support.

Can we include religious elements in our ceremony?

For authenticity, I would not personally perform religious rituals or aspects but I absolutely can include a family member, friend or religious figure in your life to do so. We can weave this into your ceremony seamlessly. I also can include rituals such as unity candle lighting where we can have religious readings shared as they are ignited, for example.

What will you wear?

As a former showgirl and dedicated creative, I love a colourful and stylishly curated outfit befitting of a special occasion! I am very happy to adapt my clothing to suit your wedding colouring. This is something I will discuss with you as we start to build out the details of your ceremony.

Okay, let’s do this. What’s next? How does it all work?

Our first step is to meet in person (or online) to discuss your needs, ideas, guest number and other key information you would like to share with me.

I will then send you an easy to follow questionnaire to complete in writing or over Whatsapp voice notes depending on your personal preference.

From there, I will go away and produce your bespoke script for you to review well ahead of the Big Day.

I allow plenty of time for minor revisions to be made. From there, it’s go time. Let’s get you married!
